Greening the OPBO - Office of the Parliamentary Budget Officer

The PBO’s Office wants to show leadership and promote green practices to help build a more sustainable future for all of us. It will help make the transition to a low-carbon economy through green procurement based on the principles of life cycle assessment and the adoption of clean technologies and green products and services by:

working in a LEED-certified building;
eliminating the unnecessary use of single-use plastics in activities, events and meetings;
promoting green procurement such as the purchase of 100% recycled stationery and office supplies;
reducing paper consumption by printing double-sided;
buying local, which reduces the environmental costs of transporting products;
buying natural products instead of chemical products, which reduces soil and water pollution and is healthier for employees;
encouraging low-carbon modes of transportation, such as cycling, walking, carpooling or public transit, to reduce emissions from driving;
using video and/or teleconferencing services;
turning off computers and other equipment at the end of the day;
participating in challenges such as Bike to Work Month, the Commuter Challenge and Zero Waste Lunches and committing to eliminate plastic waste; and
fostering best practices among employees.
